[R] Death, Doom and Detention, by: Darynda Jones

Death, Doom and Detention
(Darklight #2)
by: Darynda Jones

★★★★½

The normal part of Lorelei MacAlister’s life didn’t just slip away quietly the day Jared Kovach came to town. Nope. The normal part of her life shattered. It exploded. It burst into a gazillion shards of fleeting light.

It went out with a bang.
Goodbye normal.
Hello dark and eerie.

While her best friend, Brooklyn, is focusing all of her energy on helping Lorelei hone her abilities, Lorelei is dealing with the reality that Satan’s second in command has taken up residence inside her body. Oh, and the fact that she has a crush on the Angel of Death. But what a beautiful death it is. If those weren’t bad enough, something sinister has come to town and it wants nothing more than to hear Lorelei’s dying breath as it strangles it out of her. Thank goodness the gang has a supernatural champion. But what happens when the only being who can save them switches sides midstream? How can a group of misfits capture one of the most powerful beings ever created? And will they find out how to bring Jared back to them before it’s too late?

my thoughts

I never thought this book could be more hilarious than the first, but guess that I was wrong. Oh boy, very wrong. If the first one had me hooked, the second was devored in just one day. I'm telling you, this book was bomb.

You may be wondering why, if the book was better, I rated the same. Well, folks, I'm still having issues with all the scenes and plot twists. Some are good, some not so good and others expected. The whole thing about Jared not wanting to be with Lor, even though he is totally in love with her, because is forbidden is very old school. The love triangle I was talking about in the first book keep going here, until the end that finally Cameron got his head out of his ass and kiss his girl, Brooke. Then Lor having more power than she thought is something old school too, but doesn't matter because her powers are kind of the shit.

The most emotional part was when Lor started yelling to Brooke, because Brooke was giving shit to Lor about how distant she was becoming and all. The reaction of Lor was epic, because we finally had a glimpse of how terrible looking the visions of Lor are. They are real (or they feel as real as posible), they are raw and most of all, the feels are totally not good. The WTF moment was actually at the end when the big fight happens. Really, what the fuck happened? And the part that I hated the most was the very very end, when she tells us she is going away. FUCK OLD SCHOOL, people. Be creative, take the bull by the horns and confront the fucking end of the world. You may die anyways.

That's my rambling, sorry for the spoilers... not.
