She's trying to break out of prison--even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive. Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

my thoughts

I might pushed away making this review for months, almost a year, but the time has come to make it now. I read in March/April of 2014, so don't judge me if I don't remember much. I will try to go straight on what I thought/think of the book, because I already read Cress and don't want to spoil that book in this review.
“Cinder," Iko said after a few silent minutes of explorations. "I'm enormous.”
Scarlet, starts where Cinder left us or at least you could say that after a couple of chapters. The reason is because we have another POV, Scarlet's. Red hair, pale skin, basket on hand and a red hood, she enbodies the Red Ridding Hood. Simple as the original fairytale, but complicated as the Lunar Chronicles are. Scarlet work is administration a far, meaning that she is the boss, but she actually is the only worker (apart from her grandma) and delivering the goods to restaurants, markets and stuff. That's exactly how we meet her, but we actually notice that her grandma isn't anywhere near and that actually she was kidnapped but without leaving a trace or signal that she didn't run away. The police send her a message saying that they give up the search because there isn't any clues of her being kidnapped, but Scarlet feels that something is off. SO, she actually have to search for her grandma herself. The tricky part is... where the Big Bad Wolf? Ah, he isn't very far and he actually calls himself Wolf. Now, how Scarlet and Cinder's lifes entwine each other? Will the Wolf eat the Red Ridding Hood or... will he fall in love with her?
“But you're the only one, Scarlet. You'll always be the only one.”
Wolf's character is hard to explain without spoiling much. What can I say is that is complicated, and he has more inside than how he is outside. He is tormeted by his thoughts, because they are ruling his judgement and is something that he has to fight over and over every time. But when it comes to Scarlet, somehow she gave him peace. Scarlet's character is more simple, but when it comes to Wolf, she is pure complication. He mades her comfortable in a weird way.
“I knew they would kill me when they found out, but…” He struggled for words, releasing a sharp breath. “I think I realized that I would rather die because I betrayed them, than live because I betrayed you.”
Of course, we see again Cinder, because no matter that the book is for Scalet, our main story is about Cinder. We see a new Cinder this time, a fearless one, trying to uncover the truth and finding a way to come back to her love. As you see in the first quote, Iko is back and not like a robot, more as the mother of spaceships (as she put it). We are introduced to Thorne, Captain Carswell Thorne. He hop up in Cinder's escape party as if was a bus and just follow her everywhere she went. Cinder didn't want a first, but after time, you can see that she cares for him as a friend. Is a good friendship, plus Thorne is vair vair amusing, so you will totally laugh with him.
“A relieved grin filled up Thorne’s face. “We’re having another moment, aren’t we?”“If by a moment, you mean me not wanting to strangle you for the first time since we met, then I guess we are.”
Time wasn't in my favor when I finished this book, so don't think I didn't make it because it was boring, not good or else. I really recommend the whole series, and even more now that they keep getting better and better. Please read the books, don't wait OR if you are waiting for all the books to come out so you could read them, then I pardon you.
