[R] Zodiac, by Romina Russell

(Zodiac #1)
by Romina Russell

5 of 5 stars

At the dawn of time, there were 13 Houses in the Zodiac Galaxy. Now only 12 remain….

Rhoma Grace is a 16-year-old student from House Cancer with an unusual way of reading the stars. While her classmates use measurements to make accurate astrological predictions, Rho can’t solve for ‘x’ to save her life—so instead, she looks up at the night sky and makes up stories.

When a violent blast strikes the moons of Cancer, sending its ocean planet off-kilter and killing thousands of citizens—including its beloved Guardian—Rho is more surprised than anyone when she is named the House’s new leader. But, a true Cancerian who loves her home fiercely and will protect her people no matter what, Rho accepts.

Then, when more Houses fall victim to freak weather catastrophes, Rho starts seeing a pattern in the stars. She suspects Ophiuchus—the exiled 13th Guardian of Zodiac legend—has returned to exact his revenge across the Galaxy. Now Rho—along with Hysan Dax, a young envoy from House Libra, and Mathias, her guide and a member of her Royal Guard—must travel through the Zodiac to warn the other Guardians.

But who will believe anything this young novice says? Whom can Rho trust in a universe defined by differences? And how can she convince twelve worlds to unite as one Zodiac?

Embark on a dazzling journey with ZODIAC, the first novel in an epic sci-fi-meets-high-fantasy series set in a galaxy inspired by the astrological signs.

my thoughts

Let me think for second... done! I still don't know how to write this (not that I always know), but I can tell you this:"It was superb!".

Rhoma Grace, aka Rho, is very brave, intelligent, but had this ressemblence with Katniss (from The Hunger Games) that I don't like. Apart from that, the story is not that confusing. She was born with a purpose and I think her mother knew that, because after she was born her mother teach her everything she was supposed to know, no matter how advance it was. After a while, her mother left Rho's father, brother (Stanton) and her. After that, Rho took the journey of being a Zodai (aka some kind of police), but fate had something for her.

After finding something strange in her reading of the stars, the Zodiac as she knew it turned upside down. Her home, Cancer, was almost destroyed and she is made Guardian of Cancer. She reveals things are aren't suppose to be true and no ones believes her. She must fight the boggeyman without believers. Beware of the 13th sign!

Rho is a good character, as I said, but this thing about the love triangle... I'm kind of dissapointed. I love both fucking characters and I don't want to choose a "team", but hell is hard. From the beginning you meet Mathias, which from afar is hard as a shell, but from the inside is all emotions. Then, somehow the course changes and you are introduced to a new someone and he is so sweet (outside and inside), so you fall in love with him. But courses keep changing and Mathias stills there. UGH! I HATE LOVE TRIANGLES, I DON'T LIKE TO CHOOSE!

Plus, we have the problem that the book doesn't left you exactly in a cliffhanger, but you want to know whats going to happens next. The bad guy isn't defeated at all; the main characters are being called traitors, cowards, murders and bla bla bla; and someone who shouldn't be dead it is, but I have the hope that he will "revive". So, yes, there is more I want to read, but I don't know how many books there will be or release date or even a name for the next book. I just need something.

Finally, I recommend this book, but do not read it now. I recommend you to wait for the other book because not knowing is horrible. The book is action-packed, has romance, its a perfectly well builded world and superb characters. The evens are quite fast, but not confusing. Every new thing is explained and it makes you love the space. Now, I want to search for the signs in the stars. I want to find my sign... Libra! READ THE BOOK & BEWARE OF THE 13TH SIGN!
