[R] The 5th Wave, by Rick Yancey

The 5th Wave
(The Fifth Wave #1)
by: Rick Yancey

5 of 5 stars

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.

Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

my thoughts
The 1st Wave: Lights Out The 2nd Wave: Surf's Up The 3rd Wave: Pestilence The 4th Wave: SilencerWhat would be the 5th Wave?
Four hundred and fifty seven pages of pure perfection! That's basically my overall thought of this book. I knew it was going to be good, so I don't exactly know why I waited so much to pick it up. Guess what? I didn't want to put it down, for real.
“How do you rid the Earth of humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.”
How do I resume this story without giving you much? Let's started that life was as happy as you are now, and someday you woke up and there this mothership in the space. Yes, aliens. And they do nothing, no talk, no land, no nothing. So, after a few days, they attack. The four waves that almost wipes out humans from the world, but that isn't enough because the 5th wave is here and its going to wipe us all.
“It was the price of survival. The cost of his people's last, desesperate gamble: To rid his new home of humanity, he had to become human. And being human, he had to overcome his humanity.”
I assure you that the story is a very fucked up one, but that makes her one of the bests. Its told by many points of view or at least the ones that does matter. We have Cassie, our first one, who lost everything and everyone like everybody else, but she still is lost. Wandering what do, staying alive by her own matters. But she made a promise to her little brother that she must keep, come for him and she will do the impossible to do it. Even when along the way she must break the one rule she never except to break. Trust no one.
“I don't care what the stars say about how small we are. One, even the smallest, weakest, most insignificant one, matters.”
In a world so fuck up, how could a person trust another? Cassie must believe something good is in Evan Walker when she first saw him, because she trust. The whole book she keeps questioning if she must, but always comes down to trust him, because without him, there wasn't going to be a her. Even when he tells her that it was backwards. She saved him.
“You want to compare yourself to an insect, Cassie? If you're an insect, then you're a mayfly. Here for a day and then gone. That doesn't have anything to do with the Others. It's always been that way. We're here, and then we're gone, and it's not about the time we're here, but what we do with the time.”
I know I have been rambling about not too much and too much of Cassie, but really if I tell you more I will spoil you everything. You must read and connect the dots, there are confusing and you may not see them, but they are there and they connect. This book shows us that being human isn't bad. That everyone may know how you think, but not how you feel. That promises need to be taken seriously. That love is something you cannot wipe out. We are human and no one can take that from us. Not even these Others.
“You can only call someone crazy if there’s someone else who’s normal. Like good and evil. If everything was good, then nothing would be good.”
READ THE BOOK, PEOPLE! DO NOT WAIT TOO MUCH.
