[R] Sustained, by: Emma Chase

Sustained
(The Legal Briefs #2)
by: Emma Chase

★★★★★

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

Overruled
(The Legal Briefs #1)

★★★★½

As a DC defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing – with his southern drawl, disarming smile and captivating green eyes – he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.

Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.

Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart and mother of his beloved ten-year old daughter. Jenny is getting married — to someone who isn’t him.

That's definitely not part of the plan.

Sofia Santos is a city raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.

But when Stanton, her "friend with mind-blowing benefits" begs for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him – to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi – to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves.

Her head tells her she's crazy...and her heart says something else entirely.

What happens when you mix a one stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage and a gun-toting Nana?

The Bourbon flows, passions rise and even the best laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.

Top Ten Tuesday [33]

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join! This week Top Ten is...
Top Ten Bookworm Delights
  • Book Hoarder - Yup, I'm one of them. If I love the book, I may not read it again (not entirely true), but I will keep it forever and ever. Bonus points if the cover is pretty and if I have the full series, if its one. Less points if I didn't really like it, see next point.
  • Giving Away Books - I don't give away my books! I love to have them. But sometimes... when I really don't like the book, or I read it-didn't like-and-didn't have the whole series, or I feel like I will never read it... I give away the book. Farewell, friend!
  • Book Covers - I have an obsession about covers. I love pretty ones and I try to buy them all the ones I want, no matter if I have the older version. I want the one with the prettiest cover, so I may give away the old one (not really). But I have a pet peeve too! When the covers doesn't match... I get really pissed off.
  • #Shelfies - I love to take them and post them on IG, Fb, here or really anywhere. I love taking pictures of books!
  • Happy Endings - I just want everyone to be happy, okay? And is a delight for me to find those types of end. I hate cliffhangers and endings that leave me wanting more. But happy endings are the best!
  • Book Ramblings - If you read the same book as me and you like it. I'm sorry, buddy, but I'm going to bomb you with a lot of rambling. When I don't have no one, I ramble to myself here on the blog. I'm sorry, guys!
  • Finish Series - There is nothing better than start a series knowing that it ends, or a book. That you really know that when you read all the books you have, you will be left with a real end in the last page. As I said, I hate cliffhanges and I really hate waiting a year or more for the next book.
  • Good Movie Adaptations - No matter if the movie was shitty, bookwise, I will always try to watch them. But there is happiness when the movie follow as near as possible the real book. It doesn't compare to anything.
  • ARCs - Who really doesn't want to read the book before anyone else?
  • Quotes - I love them so... I even have notebooks full of them!
Did I left out something that you consider a bookworm delight?

BLOG TOUR: REVIEW + EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY! The Player and the Pixie, by: LH Cosway & Penny Reid

The Player and the Pixie
(Rugby #2)
by: LH Cosway & Penny Reid
Publication Date: April 12, 2016
Genres: Contemporary, Romance, Sports, Humor
How can someone so smokin’ hot be so bad in bed? I mean, Sean Cassidy is absolute rubbish. RUBBISH. He is the epitome of walking, talking false advertising and I want a refund! Plus he’s an arsehole. So… what is wrong with me that I can’t stop thinking about him?
THE PIXIE
Lucy Fitzpatrick doesn’t like rugby.
As the little sister of Ireland’s most infamous rugby player, Lucy can’t seem to escape the championship-sized shadow cast by her big brother, or her mother’s frequent attempts to micromanage her future. Her rainbow hair is as free-spirited as her quest for inner peace, yet overbearing expectations keep bringing her down. And when she’s down, her compulsive little problem lands her in seriously big trouble.
THE PLAYER
Sean Cassidy is a cold-hearted brute… or so he’s been told. Frequently. By everyone.
His blonde locks, baby blues, and rock hard bod make ladies the world over drool with desire. As the rugby world’s second most infamous player, he should be basking in his success. But Sean has never been content settling for second place, and his frequent confrontations with Lucy’s big brother leave him cold. And when he’s cold, his compulsive little problem lands him in the lap of Lucy Fitzpatrick.
THE PLAN
Sean has a problem only Lucy can solve. Lucy has a problem only Sean can fix. The solution seems obvious: you scratch my back, and I’ll bail you out of jail. But when their business arrangement unexpectedly leaves Sean scorching hot and Lucy on the precipice of inner peace, can they convince the world—and Lucy’s big brother in particular—that this is the real deal?
Either way, both the Player and the Pixie are about to teach each other some pretty monumental lessons about family, life, but most importantly, love.

★★★★½
It has past almost a year from when I read the first book of this series, so it was quite harsh at the beginning to read this one. I didn't remember much of the first book, but when you keep reading, you keep clicking things together and then comes bliss. Somehow, I never thought I was going to read about Sean Cassidy and Lucy Fitzpatrick together, because c'mon is a weird couple, but hey! it was totally perfect.
If you read the first book, you know that there is beef between Ronan and Sean. So you'll can visualize the huge mess that will happens when Ronan notices that Sean and Lucy are you know. Yes, the book goes around Sean and Lucy going with it and its consequences. Because you cannot marvin gaye it and not expect feelings getting in the way. What will happen when shit hits the fan?

Lucy and Sean are simply complicated character in their own way, but after giving them head a while, they do are a perfect couple. Lucy lives in the shadows. Always following what her mother says and always paying attention to see if it something she does will blow back in Ronan's career. That's why she has the problem she has now, she is a klepto. And that's not the worst case. Sean has other problems, more like bed problems. He need to be taught how to please a woman well. But, also, he needs better manners around people, he is just a brute. If you taught that Lucy's fam was fucked up, wait until you meet Sean's.
My biggest problem with this book was that after shit hit the fan (which was wrote beautifully), everything was just wrap-up so fast that it lost the real appealing of reading everything at all. The end was really cute and all, but I wanted more substance. I don't know what I'm asking for, but something was missing and I felt it. Everything became better than expected, then the epilogue came and you asked yourself what the hell happened.

Overall, I really wouldn't change a thing. The book made me laugh at loud, made me wonder what was going to happened and made me mad with the characters that I wanted to punch them. Now, the thing pending is the situation between Eilish and Bryan. The next book is about them and I cannot wait to read about them. Crossing my fingers to know more about the book soon. Finalizing, if you read the first book (and even if you did not), you should totally read this. It totally fun, hilarious and quick to read.
*Sean*
I DIDN’T KNOW what I was doing.
Requests, things I wanted, words I would never speak or allow myself to think were now uncontainable.
It’s the sex, I reiterated. Again. I’d used this explanation, now on repeat, as a simple justification for the complex cacophony of my mind.
“Be with you?” Her long, dark lashes fluttered, beating like distressed butterfly wings against warming pink cheeks.
I licked my lips, tasting her there. “Yes.”
She stared at me, confused. I was also confused. And oddly frightened.
Because it wasn’t the sex.
Several seconds ticked on as we studied each other in breathless silence. She found her voice before I did. “What does that—”
“Lucy?” Annie’s voice was paired with a soft knock on the bathroom door. “Are you okay?”
I opened my mouth to whisper a clarification to the question Lucy hadn’t quite posed, because I was compelled to tell her it wasn’t the sex. We didn’t have to have sex. We could just . . . talk. Or play cards. Or touch. Or look at each other from across the room.
We could merely be together.
But she covered my mouth with her hand. Her features arrested with unmistakable panic.
“Yes. I’m fine! I just . . . started my period is all. Made a mess in my jeans, like a crime scene.” Lucy hollered in response then grimaced. She immediately mouthed I’m sorry to me. Her cheeks flushed red.
I lifted an eyebrow. She rolled her eyes, ducking her head with obvious embarrassment. I pressed my lips together so I wouldn’t laugh.
Issuing me a quelling look, Lucy released me and skittered out of the stall, whispering, “Stay here and count to three hundred.”
“Oh! Do you need anything?” Annie’s voice was less muffled and I surmised she’d opened the bathroom door.
“Ah, no. Have it all sorted now. Thank God Tom has these nice absorbent napkins instead of those troublesome hand driers. Although I feel like I’m wearing a nappy. They’re bad for the environment, so I should talk to him about replacing the napkins. Maybe make a few available for emergencies . . .”
Lucy’s anxiety-riddled chatter faded as the bathroom door clicked shut.
I released an audible exhale. My heart was beating as though it might leap from my chest. I needed to catch my breath. Neither had anything to do with being caught.
What the fuck were you doing?
It was the sex. She’s phenomenal in bed. You’ve never had that before. It was just sex.
I nodded, reiterating the logic of my justification for the uncharacteristic behavior. If I repeated it enough, perhaps I would believe it.
I didn’t count to three hundred as instructed. I counted to one hundred and twenty-three, then realized what I was doing.
“You’re mad, Sean,” I muttered, shaking myself and promptly leaving the ladies’ room. I checked the cufflinks on my dress shirt—a nervous habit—and strolled back to the table, eyeing the assortment of eejits gathered.

Penny Reid
SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing). By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

Bounty
(Colorado Mountain #7)
by: Kristen Ashley

★★★★★

Justice Lonesome has enjoyed a life of bounty.

Even so, she’s inherited the curse of the Lonesome. A poet’s soul. Which means she’s still searching for something. Searching for peace. Searching for the less…that’s more.

And when the foundation of her life is pulled out from under her, grieving, she goes to the mountains to find her oasis. She hits Carnal, Colorado and decides to stay.

Deke Hightower lost everything at the age of two. He lost it again at fifteen. His life has not been about bounty. It’s been about learning to live with less, because there’s no way to get more.

Deke’s also watched all his friends go down to the women who gave them what they needed. He wants that for himself. But he knows that search isn’t going to be easy because he’s a rider. His home is the road. That’s the only place he can breathe. And the woman who takes her place at his side has to do it sitting on the back of his bike.

When Deke meets Justice, he knows she’s not that woman. She’s cute. She’s sweet. And she’s into him, but she’s got it all and Deke knows he won’t fit into that. So he holds her at arm’s length. Establishes boundaries. And Justice will take it because she wants Deke any way he’ll let her have him.

But when Justice finds herself a pawn in a dangerous game, Deke makes a decision.

When he does, he has no idea he’s just opened himself up to bounty.

[Series Review] Crossfire, by: Sylvia Day

by: Sylvia Day

Overall: ★★★☆☆
I have to confess that this review would be a little bit better if I had reviewed when I read the first four books. But at that time, I was super lazy and I just wanted to read and no review. Now, that I finished the last book in the series, it was obvious that I was supposed to make ALL the reviews. So, why not a series review? I'm just warning you that this review might be all
reflected in how I felt after finishing the last book, and the series, so there can be spoilers.

If you have read other people's reviews, so might see that I agree with some of them. This series was too goddamn long to function as I would like. I really think that the author would have wrapped it up in the first three books and that's it. NO ONE need the last two books.

I couldn't stop myself to compare this series to others well known, like Fifty Shades or even This Man. This story follows the life of Eva and Gideon Cross. Just like the other series I mentioned, the male main character, Gideon, is super rich... as in, like Eva describes him, someone who owns almost half of Manhattan, or was it Long Island? Anyways, Eva is just a cross between the girl next door and the Princess Diaries. Her mother has always married rich people, so she has some kind of money. When Eva and Gideon's lives collide, shit hit the fan for them. They weren't prepared for each other, but they couldn't stop what was happening. This two were opposites that crash and burn the entire city.

First, we got the full story from Eva's point of view, then much later in the series we see Gideon's, which isn't that wow, really. Second, their lives before each other were very very fucked up... as in therapist fucked up. You know... these books weren't bad. The first three books were actually good, but then the gum got so stretched until it snapped.

But the last book was the line for me. While I was reading the book, I was waiting for the biggest plot twist ever and it never came. The book was boring to tears and some things, like Monica's death, were so unexpected that it pissed me off. I didn't notice I was in the last chapter until I saw the Epilogue page! I was like, what the fuck I have been reading?

Guys, I do NOT recommend this series, period. I never do this, but this series did not contribute anything to me. I have to admit that I like some parts, even love, but overall it was a shitty story. I'm shocked of saying something like this, because I have read other books of this authors and they were great. What the fuck happened? I will never know. But I can say that I read them all, and that I don't recommend them. Peace out.
