The Selection
(The Selection #1)

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
I never thought that a story like this was going to be one of my favorites! For real. I was never in princess and prince stuff, but this book is nothing like that, but exactly like that. May I explain?
The Selection, as in the book, occurs after some wars and all. Its a futuristic novel, where people is divided in castes. The royal family is One and the homeless are Eight. Our main character, America Singer, is a five. The Selection, as in the competition, is that a game. When Prince Maxon, the king's son, is coming at age, he needs to choose a future wife to then become the queen. America was not too much excited when the letter came, about that she can fill a form to participate. Her life was perfect, her family love her, she found love in Aspen (a secret lover and a Six), so she didn't want to enter. But at the end, she do.
After being chosen, with other 34 girls, the competition is up. The royalty is not that safe, some mystery attacks are occurring from time to time and that worries America and of course, the Prince Maxon. Talking about love manners... the relationship between Maxon and America didn't begin the same with the other girls. But that made the competition more interesting!
About Team Maxon or Team Aspen... Hell! You asking me which one I'm picking? Of course it will be Maxon. He is just too much sweetness, like a candy. I just want to eat it all. Why I didn't pick Aspen? He's a jerk! First, he loves America, then he dumped her and later he wants to go back of how they were? No, just no. Can you die already? I'm sorry if your family cry for your death, but I want you dead.
Attacks. They are very interesting thing, because why are they occurring. I think that the king is not saying everything. Poor Maxon trying to help everyone! The north and south people are searching for something, maybe they are even in a competition of who can find it first. But what the hell is it? What do Illea have that they want? I mean, it must be something very precious to try to search the whole palace and not find it.
I'm feeling that I will be hooked so much with this series that I will be lost until the last book comes. For now, I have a novella and another book to read before the second novella comes out and then the last book.
"This book is for anyone who has ever lost a loved one, for anyone who has woken up crying and gone to bed the same way, for anyone who has had to learn that it's okay to be not okay. Surviving isn't strength, it's continuing to breathe one day at a time; strength is learning to live despite the pain."
