She took a dare and fell in love.
Truth would have been the smarter choice.

After years of living under her father’s thumb, Emmeline is ready to break free. She’s abandoned her life as a New York socialite to follow her dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher in a small, wholesome town. Seeing the man that nearly broke her was absolutely not what she had hoped to find in Prescott, Montana.

Nick hasn’t seen his Emmy in nine years, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten a thing about the woman he loves. After just one blissful night as man and wife, he gave her up, sacrificing his own happiness to keep her safe—far away from him. But the moment she walks back into his lonely life is the moment he decides never to let her go again. He won’t waste his second chance. All he has to do is win back Emmeline’s heart, keep her safe from the shadows in his past and prove to her that taking a wager on him is a sure bet.

I promised that I was going to keep up with this series, and I fulfilled my promise! Surprise, surprise when the second book was not about Silas, but of Nick. I was disappointed, but not that much. Nick is gorgeous so reading about him was definitely on my list.

Plot twist, Nick is married and never told anyone. It has passed nine years since he saw his wife, now somehow she ends up in the same small town where he lives. Is fate, Nick believes. There hasn't been a day that he doesn't think about her. But Emmeline moved on with her life. She has a boyfriend now, one that is many states away. She definitely hates Nick's guts. And she is sure not to fall for his charms again. But in order for her to gain her divorce, he asks her for one chance. One chance to prove her that they are good and that they can continue where they left.

Emmeline is a redhead, and just like any redheaded girl, she is fire. But Nick is a fireman, so he knows how to put her fire out. These two were literally meant for each other. Circumstances put them apart and that was a damn shame, but now they have all the time to catch up if Emmy gets her head out of her ass. I love their story, not as much as the first book, but still a good one. As I said before, I love small town stories. Places where people know everyone's business. So this series has the perfect setting in my mind. Also, these characters are awesome. I loved to see more of Rowen, Gigi, and Jess. I also loved to see a little of Maisy and Silas (I seriously need to read his book asap... I can't wait for Maisy's).

Overall, the book is not long. It is easy going (which means that in that aspect is better than the first one). And I loved every bit of it. I'm sure you'll love all the romance of this book. Give it a go.

PS, THE COVER IS GORGEOUS!

Thursday Tracks [75]

Ohhh! You know, and if you don't you'll know now, that I LOVE, love, LoVe music. Just as I live and breathe words, I live and breathe music. Those two things are just part of me as any other organ in my body. As you can see in my Music page, I hear music while reading! My Thursdays are dedicated to music thanks to this feature! Created to share what song, album, playlist, artist I got stuck in my head every week.
Now, this week song is...

SHADOW AND A DANCER

Artist: The Fray
Album: Helios

favorite part of the lyrics: We know the summer thrill is gone, but we've never been so in love... like a shadow and a dancer.

Hear me next Thursday!

[Review] The Infinite Sea, by: Rick Yancey

The 5th Wave #2

THE INFINITE SEA

by: Rick Yancey
Publication Date: September 16th, 2014
Read Date: January 24th, 2018
Genre: Dystopia, Young Adult
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 300

How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.

Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.

Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.

The first book of this trilogy, and its movie, was so much better than this book. I liked the book, but I hated reading it. I could have read this book in one just sitting if I was interested as I was in my bedroom's roof. This tends to happen A LOT with trilogies, series, and sort. The second book always sucks but without it there no base from the epic conclusion, or so I am hoping.

We know what happened, the base blew up or better said, Evan Walker blew it up so Cassie and the others could escape. We are left wondering what happened to all our fave characters. I have to confess that I barely remember much of the first book when I started reading this book, so the first chapters (which were in a character's POV that I didn't recognize until much later) I was totally LOST. When we got to Cassie's POV, everything clicked and when Evan's POV came, I remembered everything. After escaping the Others, this group of humans had to hide and find shelter from them, because the Others totally are coming after them. Evan made a promise to Cassie, he was totally going to keep it, but not everyone thought the same... until he appeared.

Reading various POV's made my head dizzy, but it gave me all the insight to judge them, or not. I was not a fan of Ringer, but now I just pity her. I thought Ben was a total douche, but now I just think he's a kid trying to survive. Cassie is still a total badass in my mind, but super scared of any outcome, and that makes her a true human. Evan is weird. Is like judging a person that judges himself because he's still trying to decide who or what he is. Poundcake was my broken heart that never will be repaired again. HE WENT TO DUBUQUE, and I cry because of that. (You'll understand after you read the book, bwhaha).

Really, I don't judge that this book was kind of boring, not much action and confusing until everything clicked. It always happens in the second book. I enjoyed it still. My final judgment will come after I finish the next, and last, book. Then I will say if reading this book was worth it, even if finishing the series was worth it. I leave you with this... In this series, not everything is what it seems, so if this book sucked, maybe what comes after is pure bliss. I'll keep my mind open and you should too.

Getaway #3

ESCAPE

by: Jay Crownover
Release Date: January 30th, 2018

Everything inside of him is screaming that he needs to run, he needs to go, he needs to escape.

Lane Warner is used to being overshadowed and overlooked.

After all, he’s the youngest brother and the most laid back one in the family. He’s the one known for going with the flow and not making waves, even when things seem to be at their worst.

Very few things in life have had the ability to rile Lane up and get under his skin. At the top of that list is his childhood friend Brynn Fox…no…Brynn Warner. The fact that they share a last name was the one thing that has the power to light him up and spin him out of control like no other. There was no calm, cool and collected when it comes to all the reasons why Brynn had to become part of his family.

It’s slowly killing him to keep wanting what he can’t have, so Lane sees only one way to stop himself from doing something they’ll both regret…he has to leave.

Everything inside of her is calling out to find him, to follow, to bring him home.

Brynn Warner is used to being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

After all, she’s the daughter of an unrepentant gold-digger who never once blinked at being the cause of her daughter’s pain and suffering.

Very few things in her life have ever brought happiness and a sense of security. At the very top of that list is Lane Warner. She has unwaveringly loved the youngest Warner since the first minute she laid eyes on him. He was everything Brynn ever wanted and everything she knew she could never have.

Sometimes the right choice is the one that hurts the most and Brynn’s had to make a few that felt like they might be the end of her.

When Lane takes off, one thing is clear, the only choice Brynn has is to go after him. She’s going to bring her wayward cowboy home….whatever it takes.

[Release Blitz] Respect, by: Aleatha Romig

An Infidelity Novel

RESPECT

by: Aleatha Romig
Publication Date: January 23rd, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Adult
Kindle Edition - 415 pages

“The making of a man”

Standing at what I believe is the precipice of my life, I, Oren Demetri, was too young to understand that it wasn’t and too old to imagine that it couldn’t be.

The already hefty accumulation of my successes and failures, bravery and fears, and rewards and suffering, had brought me to this point. It was hard to contemplate the things I’d done, and yet in reality, I’d only begun to learn the possibilities.

I suppose that’s how it was for me at twenty-nine years of age on the brink of all I’d ever wanted without fully realizing the price I would pay. Yet in that moment, I knew there would be no cost too great or sacrifice I wouldn’t make. I had no idea how far-reaching that moment of self-discovery would be because as the congregation’s murmurs quieted, bleeding into silence and allowing the thump of my heart to be the only sound I heard, I was a man filled with love and adoration, emotions in stark contrast to those I needed in the world I’d built or the one I was about to enter.

Angelina Costello was my dream and now my reality. I’d worked diligently to move beyond the actuality of being a dockworker’s son to becoming a self-made, successful entrepreneur, all in an effort to earn the right to call her my own. I’d overcome servitude to others, collecting their paychecks and lowly praises, to become the one who signed the paychecks and offered the accolades when they were rightfully earned.

The world was my oyster and walking toward me on the arm of her uncle was my pearl. I’d found her amongst the empty shells life had offered. There was no need to pry open another possibility. Angelina was all I wanted. Yet my path was uncharted. There was more for me to earn, lose, and willingly give.

The top of that list was respect.

This stand-alone novel may be read without reading the Infidelity series.

From New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a stand-alone novel, a spin-off from her beloved Infidelity series. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, this new epic romantic thriller will delve into a world where family takes on new meaning, and even the inhabitants are suspicious of the next chapter.

Top Ten Books I Liked But Don't Remember Much

*not in order*

I have to admit that I know bits and pieces of each book, but not enough to tell you why I liked them or if I would recommend it. But all of them were in my "favorites" shelf on Goodreads, so I should definitely recommend them.
